My Students

I feel like COVID and technology, particularly phones and social media have had a negative impact on my student's social and emotional well-being. My students are mostly freshmen. They have not experienced a normal school year since they were in 7th grade. There is a lack of face-to-face conversations when it comes to teenagers.

My Project

The class would incorporate lessons in geography, math, history, and reading and build critical thinking, collaboration, and strategy skills. Students could also potentially complete projects that involve creating their own board games.

Having several board games for them to play in my classroom would give my students the opportunity to spend time interacting with each other and help them improve their relationships with their peers.

This is a great opportunity for students to practice their social skills and learn good sportsmanship, how to take turns, and how to share.

It seems like the only games kids play these days are on an electronic device. They don't have to necessarily actually talk to anyone, it's all through text messages on the computer or their phone. I'm looking forward to teaching my students how to play board games to help them learn how to work cooperatively with each other face to face. I think that by playing these games, the students will have a chance to socialize with each other and this will help build their problem-solving skills and many other needed people skills.
