My Students

My students are resilient, kind, young adults at a Title I school. Many of them struggled immensely last year during distance learning. The struggle continues this year as we try to build back some of the academic stamina and social-emotional skills that students need to feel confident, safe, and supported at school.

Our students have been out of the practice of reading for pleasure for some time, and it is crucial to provide them with reading opportunities that excite them and reflect their varied interests and backgrounds.

It is my hope that providing them with more independent reading choices and new, exciting young adult titles will rekindle the joy to be found in reading.

My Project

When my most reluctant of readers view my library shelves at the start of the school year, I can feel their panic and disorientation right away. It's been so long since they have thought of reading for pleasure, that it's a daunting task to actually select a book or even know where to begin in their search for one.

The most common request from my reluctant readers when I ask them what they would like to read is either, "something about sports" or "something with a mystery in it;" I would love to have a ton of options for these students that fit the bill!

The phenomenal book titles in my shopping cart are sure to captivate even the most skeptical of readers so that they can join in all the fun that we are having in our classroom reading and sharing great stories. I can't wait to share these titles with my students.
