Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The bell rings at 9:10 A.M and I stand before my students who have been robbed of the opportunity to develop a passion for creative writing and critical reading. I want them to nurture that passion by having unlimited access to new worlds that can only be created by writers and found in books.

Many members in my community are poor.

According to poverty experts and research by the American Psychological Association, students who are living in poverty are more likely to complete fewer years of education. The group of students that I am teaching will not be a part of that statistic. They will understand that education is the key to success, and they must not fear it. Each and every one of my awesome students is unique and intelligent. The world underestimates them and believes that they cannot become outstanding adults with their own ideas; outstanding adults who are independent thinkers. Nonetheless, my students enter my classroom with a hidden passion to learn and explore, but they only bring it out when their learning environment is welcoming to them and their unique growth. With help, I want ensure that they push themselves beyond the limitation that society has placed on them. They will accomplish this by having access to various reading resources and technology.

My Project

For this project I am requesting four Kindle Fire tablets, subscriptions to TIME For Kids and Junior Scholastic magazines, Crayola Classic Original Markers, Prismacolor Scholar Art Pencil Sets, paper, Blick All Purpose Newsprints, and a variety of books which includes: To Kill a Mocking Bird, The Hunger Games, Bluford Series, and We Beat the Street. The Kindle tablets will support reading and research. Students will see how crucial technology is in their journey of learning to conduct research for their essays and projects. I realize one of the important resources that my students need are books. Not just any books, but books that will grasp their interests and lead them to practice their reading skills such as the Hunger Game Series, 1984, and the Bluford Series. My students will use TIME For Kids and Junior Scholastic for linking different subjects and reinforcing writing and conversation. My class also needs craft materials such as crayons, markers, construction paper.

They will have tools and resources that will help them take their learning into their own hands.

My students will walk out of my classroom with a love for reading and writing. They will be familiar with the ways in which technological research takes place in the 21st century. In my class, they will have the tools to create something tangible--something that one can experience with the five senses and the spirits. They will have the resources to make long term changes in their lives and community.
