My Students

My students are unable to adequately do research on subject matters discussed and/or assigned in class, due to the lack of technology and library resources in my school, as well as the lack of transportation for some of my parents.

GSElementary is a low socio-economic urban school located in one of the smallest and poorest communities in Los Angeles, California.

It services the needs of socially economical disadvantage students from grades K-5. I teach a group of wonderful 4th grade students. They are eager learners who at times love to talk a little bit too much but their conversations makes me smile everyday. My students just need more positive exposure to the world and I want them to learn that the best and first place they can get that exposure is through books, especially the encyclopedia.

My Project

Having encyclopedias in the classroom will allow my students to gain a better understanding of their world. It will allow students the opportunity to deepen their understanding of concepts discussed in class, and to satisfy their own curiosity about various topics. For the majority of my students, having the encyclopedias in the classroom is essential. Most of my students do not have a computer at home nor the transportation to go to the library to do research. Students will be able to complete research assignments using reliable additional resources.

This project is not just important to my current students, but it is important for my future students as well.

They need to have access to as many resources as possible to expand their knowledge of the world around them. I WANT YOU, to join me in helping my students acquire that new knowledge through the use of encyclopedias. The knowledge they will learn will hopefully encourage them to leave the environment they are in and explore the world and become productive adults and responsible citizen
