This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Pre-K inner-city artists have been "distance learning" since last March. Naturally they are running low on crayons. They are excited to do art. They loved drawing Jamie Wyeth's pig but the Giuseppe Arcimboldo Renaissance fruit face portraits were the best. Sometimes even mom and dad draw. Everyone has a little cabin fever so art is a great diversion.

When we get back to school there will be no sharing of supplies so every child will need to have his/her own.

The beeswax crayons I am asking for are expensive, but will double for oil pastels and each set of 24 comes in a plastic box with room for the child's name. Normally I'd buy a few sets and the crayons would be shared.

My school has ordered some art supplies but the district has spent money on Chromebooks for every student.

My Project

My students have been "distance learning" since March. In September all students received Chromebooks and are learning how to type. However crayons are not out of style, just wearing out!

My students love to draw and need activities that do not require a computer screen.

We will be using beeswax crayons to make Romare Bearden cityscapes like their own Newark NJ, Mexican Day of the Dead skulls, deep sea fish and seahorses on black paper. The crayons will be used for all projects including Frida Kahlo monkeys, Van Gogh sunflowers and the famous cherry blossoms of Branch Brook Park.

When we get back to in-school learning the students will not be allowed to share crayons, pastels or colored pencils or other art supplies. These brilliant 3-sided beeswax crayons come in their own plastic box so we can wipe down the box with sanitizer. One small step for safety!
