I teach a very curious, diverse group middle schoolers. They are always eager to learn something new. Students usually come to my with a negative view of math but are willing to open their minds to the many possibilities of making real world connection with math.
My class is where technology meets education to create future ready students.
With almost 40 student per class and multiple abilities levels and learning styles, it is important for students to be able to move on when ready or receive additional instruction when needed.
My students need 2 Chromebooks, 2 televisions, Chromecasts, and carts to create moveable workstations. The goal of this program is set up “future ready” learning stations that include one television and one Chromecast. Chromecast is a device that will allow any computer, tablet, or mobile device to mirror the on screen image to the television. Being “future ready” is a White House initiative for preparing students in school for what’s to come in the future which “empowers teachers with the best technology and the training to make the most of it, and empowers students through individualized learning and rich, digital content”. With this program I would like to focus on the empowerment of students through individualized learning and rich, digital content. According to Huffington Post, “Future Ready means each school district team comes together to discuss their vision for student learning and begin making plans for using technology effectively - ensuring the following Future READY components are evident in all schools, to benefit every student.”
This will be unique because it will promote a true 21st century classroom where students are using technology to display and share work.
Having this technology in the classroom will create a “future ready” classroom. This is the kind of technology that our students will have access to in their homes as well as in the workplace as they begin to enter the workforce. These workstations will allow for differentiated groups being taught to multiple individuals in one classroom, multi group collaboration, independent learning, and small group presentations in student centered classroom. This will make the learning meaningful and relevant.
This program is innovation at its best, allowing the students to using technology for learning and not for the sake of using technology. “Future ready” workstations promote creativity in students and allow them access to the most current technology.
