This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is my hope to create a love for reading in my students. As a second year teacher, I have been working hard to build my classroom library and ensure that my students have access to books that they are interested in and excited to read about! I'm sure many of us know that you are more likely to read about a topic when it is something you are interested in. I know as an avid reader myself, I am constantly choosing books of the historical fiction genre because that is something I am interested in. I would love for my students to have the same opportunity.

With 30 students in an Integrated Co-Teaching Classroom, we have students with a wide range of abilities.

Some may be reading on a kindergarten level, while their classmates are above grade-level. This classroom library will allow all students to feel excited when choosing a book, regardless of what level they are on! They will also be able to choose books that are of interest to them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an interest in read aloud's and independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their reading experiences.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books and hopefully create that love for reading!
