Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For the last few years, I have been teaching writing to young children ages three to five years old. At first, I thought this was going to be rather difficult and that the children might find it overwhelming. I was wrong! However, I am in constant need of supplies to meet our goals.

My students are fun loving, cute, curious, silly, loving, sweet, kind, and eager to learn new things.

They require a lot of stimulation and many hands-on activities in order to meet their full potential. Every child that comes into my classroom each day needs to feel loved and respected. I am striving to give my little ones an enchanting, magical year in Pre-K. I am in constant pursuit of engaging materials that will stimulate their desire to learn. Our school is located in an urban, struggling neighborhood in New York City. 100% of our students receive free lunch. Their families are trying to make ends meet and often do not have the extra funds to purchase educational materials for their children. This is one of the reasons I try so hard to provide these materials in school.

My Project

I am requesting blank books in order for the children to write and illustrate their very own books. I am also requesting jumbo crayons and markers to help the children illustrate these wonderful books. This activity takes several months to finish, but at the end they have a personal book that they can be proud of. These books are cherished by both the parents and the students themselves. The first few months are tough for them and for me, but they really take off after that. I absolutely love to see the joy and sense of accomplishment when they complete a piece of writing. We even have publishing parties with iced tea and cookies. We all enjoy our young authors' stories. Please help me in my quest for blank books and writing materials. The children will certainly take pride in their work and will treasure these books for many years to come.

Young children love to write and draw about their lives and what they see in the world around them, and they especially like to make their own special books.

I love teaching writing to young children and have seen a tremendous improvement when they are given the chance to write everyday and are given positive feedback. Many of the resources I have requested will be used for many years to come and used to help hundreds of young students in the future. Please consider donating to this project!
