My Students

Students at my exceptional high school come from all walks of life with a wide range of academic and creative abilities. My students are enrolled in a Foundations in Programming course which is an introduction to basic coding and computer science.

My hope is to encourage students to explore STEM careers, especially in Computer Science in the hope that they will gravitate towards these much in demand, high paying jobs.

Students at my school are extremely motivated and we have some awesome Career Academies to help give students a taste of different careers. I'd like to see more students think of Computer Science as a future career!

My Project

My students need engaging resources to build their interest and confidence in programming. SCRATCH is a block based programming platform that is engaging and fun for my beginning programmers. I'd like to provide my students with the SCRATCH Coding Games and Projects books so that they have access to starter projects. These books are well written and organized, making it easy for all students to follow along. Moreover, they are printed in color which helps my students to follow along easily, as SCRATCH color codes their blocks. Students will work in pairs, so I need one book for every pair of students. Sharing books, and working on projects in pairs, also fosters a collaborative environment, and enables students to work on paired programming.

My students are now ready to begin "creating" their own projects and games.

The 'Coding Games in SCRATCH' book will afford students a step-by-step visual guide to building their own games.

SCRATCH seems to be an excellent way for creative students to engage in designing games and projects. This is an ideal way for artistic students who are interested in technology and gaming to put their skills to use.
