Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine having Physical Education class without a gymnasium. Now picture these same students not having their own equipment to be physically active with. Well, that is the situation which the students at our school face. Yet, our students are always so excited about coming to Physical Education class.

Our students live in a low income neighborhood.

These children all receive free lunch as part of the Title I program. Our school population comes from very diverse backgrounds. Many of these families also live in temporary housing. You would never know any of this by looking at the faces of these children. They come to school smiling everyday and love seeing their teachers greet them daily.

My Project

At our school and in the community there are not many safe areas for students this age to play. Getting this project funded would mean my students would get to experience shooting a basketball into a basketball hoop that is perfect size for them. Having 6 hoops with removable backboards will not only help students accuracy during our basketball unit, but can also be utilized during other units like tossing and catching.

After seeing Space Jam 2, there is a big push for our students to learn basketball and be able to shoot a ball into a hoop.

A majority of our student population know the game of basketball from seeing older siblings play with friends or on TV watching the NBA games.
