Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a collaborative team teacher of mathematics for a group of twenty 8th grade students. Some of my students receive special needs services, such as, resource room, speech therapy, and counseling. Our school is located in a high-need urban community.
Building a strong foundation in financial literacy is even more important in these critical economic times. My students are displaying many bad money management habits. I feel ill-equipped to teach them the basics of personal finance.
I will implement a financial literacy unit in May for my students. I would like for my students to have first hand access to several financial literacy reference books. I want to ensure that basic personal financial management skills are learned during this educational experience.
I will teach my students about money, inspire them to start businesses, and introduce the thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and habits of financially successful people. This is a time when they are forming their views of the world and are learning what is normal and natural from those around them (parents, teachers, media). I want my students to learn how to manage and invest money wisely so they will be successful when they are living independently. Your help will ensure that my students have the background to give them a better chance at financial freedom in the future.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
