Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a public school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. My school is a Title I school where 91% of students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

My kindergarten classroom is filled with 24 highly energetic 5 and 6 year olds.

Everyday my students come to school excited to learn something new and their favorite time of the day is Centers. This the time of day they can explore various hands-on activities to enhance their learning in a small group.

Many of my students come from homes where there is not a lot of extra funds to provide toys geared towards science and engineering, so during the school day I hope to fill in that gap during our Center Time.

My Project

My students favorite part of the day is Centers. Here they get to explore in depth various things we have learned during the school day, but in a more direct hands on manner.

These materials will help to make Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics come alive!

Students will not only be learning about bridges and homes, but will be able to build and design them on their own. They will also be able to use planning and evaluation skills in the process of refining what they create. These skills will not only assist them in grade school, but college and career as well!
