This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students fun-loving, curious, and enjoy learning.

It is never too early to inspire my students to solve problems and be engineers, and I would love for them to help us come up with innovative solutions to help keep classroom carpets and floors clean.

Budget cuts over the years have reduced the amount of time our custodians can spend sweeping our floors and vacuuming our small area rug, and this is a problem that can impact my students' health and their ability to work away from their desks. A Dyson vacuum cleaner would not only help keep our classroom clean, but would also serve as a source of inspiration and creativity for my students to be engineers and design their own solutions to help keep classroom floors clean.

My students will learn about engineering by using activities that have been created by Dyson engineers located online. Once my students learn about engineering with these activities, I will present them with the problem of how to keep our floor and rug clean so they can work in their small groups wherever they would like to do so. The Dyson vacuum cleaner will be used to show how engineers solved this problem, and they will learn how it works. Then in small groups they will work together to design on chart paper what their vacuum cleaner of the future will look like. Groups will present their ideas to each other, just like engineers do!
