Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In order to prepare my pre-kindergarten students for the 21st century and to foster their imaginative play, providing math and construction-related items is crucial for their developmental learning and growth. These materials will offer them the opportunity to dive deeper into mathematical thinking and communication while engaging in hands-on experiences. I believe that through imaginative play, students can explore various career possibilities, and I would love to emphasize the importance of construction workers and how they help keep New York City running. Providing them with construction vests and hats will enhance their imaginative play and possibly inspire their future careers.

The goal of this project is to equip my students with materials that stimulate their thinking and learning.

The items I’ve selected will help them develop skills in counting, pattern recognition, fine motor coordination, and sorting. The clear bins will create an organized learning environment, allowing students to work independently. These materials will not only be used in the math center, but will also be incorporated into the art, block, and discovery centers, demonstrating to students that math is integrated into every aspect of life.

My students are particularly special because, for the majority, this is their first experience in a classroom and with these types of educational materials. Unfortunately, many of my students come from low-income households or shelters. Despite their current circumstances, I want to ensure they have access to the best resources to help them reach their full potential. They deserve nothing less, and I believe these materials will bring out the best in them.
