My students need 3 sets of the writing prompt journals, 1 writing process management chart, and 1 write and publish activity center to enhance their writing skills this school year.
"Hi! I am a third grade teacher at a public school in New York. This is a Title I school located in a lower socio-economic community where 93% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day. Many of the children are English Language Learners and their parents are immigrants who do not speak English.
I have been teaching the third grade for twelve years now and I notice year after year that the children have great difficulty in the area of writing. I believe this difficulty is associated with the lack of knowledge of the English language. I would like to motivate the children to want to write more in the classroom. In the fourth grade, these children must be prepared for a very difficult writing exam. I believe there are many items that can be purchased to assist with motivating the children to write. During the regular school day, we spend about one hour on writing. I have to make writing time fun for the children. Often, they are asked to come up with their own writing ideas. This discourages many children because they don't know where to begin. I would like to expose the children to writing prompts at the beginning of the school year so it will help the transition to thinking of their own writing topics later on in the year. My students need 3 sets of writing prompt journals, 1 writing process management chart, and 1 write and publish activity center to enhance their writing skills this school year.
Lakeshore has many different writing activities to choose from. These three items would be a wonderful asset to my classroom. Thank you very much for your thought and consideration. Your donation will be put to good use and help me accomplish my goals in writing this school year. My students will become good writers with your assistance!
