My Students

My kindergarten students are excited and eager to learn. They come to school each day looking forward to actively participating in their learning. They are anxious to become better readers and writers and work hard to record their thoughts through creative spelling.

My students attend a K-8, Title I school in a small community.

Recently, our school celebrated it's 102nd birthday! Many of my students' parents and grandparents are alumni of the school and are proud to see their child or grandchild entering the same school where they received their education.

My Project

Kindergarten has recently changed its focus to a very academic atmosphere. Early literacy skills, phonics, reading/writing, and mathematics have become the main objective. This requires much instruction and more importantly, teacher modeling. These skills are often taught through mini lessons, work stations, activities, and anchor charts. I am requesting an all purpose easel so students can actively engage in writer's workshop. Through the purchase of this easel, I can adequately display anchor charts and allow students an opportunity to record their answers. Afterward, charts will be displayed for students to use as a reference during their independent writing time.

With a strict focus on reading and writing in kindergarten, it is vital that students have a firm foundation to build on.
