My Students

I teach an enthusiastic group of third through fifth graders who are each as unique as they are lovable. My students are eager to learn and grow. Their passion for learning comes out in so many ways, from sharing their opinions on our class read alouds to expressing their thoughts in feelings in their reflection journals. Although all my students have their own strengths and growth areas, we all particularly love our daily independent reading time where we turn on our twinkle lights, get cozy, and curl up with good book.

My students thrive in environments where they feel known, loved, and valued.

As a class, we are striving to build that space for each other. My students come from many different backgrounds and have many different needs, but each day we are committed to coming together and supporting one another in our learning journey.

My Project

My amazing group of third through fifth grade students have a diverse range of strengths and needs. However, one thing that many of these students have in common is that they have struggled to crack the code to read proficiently. This is not a failure on their part, rather a failure the on the part of educators to effectively give these students the tools they need to read.

Given the wealth of cognitive and neuroscience research around reading acquisition, I believe every child is capable of becoming a proficient reader.

To set my students up for success, I need to ensure that I am informed on best practices around reading instruction for all learners. These books, ranging from ideas on reading instruction, writing instruction, and content-knowledge instruction, will equip me to be an effective literacy teacher for my students.
