My Students
This is my third year of teaching sixth grade in a middle school in rural Reedsburg, Wisconsin. We have just recently been qualified to be a Title I school, so money can be tight in my students' families. My students are my world, and I want to provide a classroom environment that allows them to all succeed in the best way that they can. If this is not as attainable to some students compared to others, I want them to know that I will always support, love, and care for them throughout sixth grade and beyond.
Sixth grade can be a tough age for some students, and the relationships that I build with students can be strained and tattered at times.
At the end of the year, they are still kids who want your support and attention in some way or another, and this is always my main thought during a trying time. As I have learned, they are still wanting to tell you a story about what their cat did last night, but they also understand humor/sarcasm and can have higher expectations. They are truly a joy to have.
My Project
The materials I have chosen for my classroom are for my students and I to be able to work closely together to diminish learning confusion and struggles, and to increase success and knowledge in my classroom.
I have chosen a kidney-bean table and four wobble stools in order for four students to sit at for more structured one-on-one intervention and reteaching.
This table and stool combination can also be used for students to work independently at if needing a quieter space, as well as for a group of students to work together on a project. When students are working at the table, there is also a chance that I can build a stronger and greater relationship that is based on trust, support, and love. This will help students gain the motivation they may need to carry grit through their learning curves and to succeed.
