This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

KIPP Promesa Prep is in the beautiful Boyle Heights neighborhood of East LA. Our school is committed to literacy, community, and justice. Our students, like all children, are vibrant, diverse, and full of possibilities. Each day we welcome our 500 wonderfully unique people and this beautiful magic happens: they share more of who they are, they connect with their peers, they rise up to meet challenges, and they learn about the wider world.

Reading is liberating and transformative.

As the educator and civil rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune said: "The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read." This is the experience with literacy we want to provide for each of our young scholars. Providing a school library space means every student can access the joy of escaping into a great book.
