Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Some of our learning goals include the following: to make observations and/or measurements of an object’s motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion; to plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object; to analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull and to apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects. The students need to have a space where they can feel safe and comfortable and be able to have fun during their busy school day.

Students always need real life experiences to help them understand what they are learning and I can not think of a better way then to play while they learn!

We were gifted a pool table, but is missing the balls and we want to set up a proper STEM room! We also want smaller tables to explain angles from the top.

Using a pool table would help students manipulate the different balls with the use of the pool sticks in order to investigate how objects move. Many of our students may never have played pool making this a new experience. Also while being in teams students would be able to practice skills, such as being a good listener and being kind to each other, needed in order to work together to accomplish a goal. Educational movements have emerged to harness students' interests in gaming that include "gamifying" lessons as well as creating "Gaming Clubs."
