My Project

The Funky Panthers are the modern band comprised of students with disabilities in our self-contained school. Our band is inclusive and open to all students at our school. Students get the opportunity to sing as well as play guitar, bass, keyboards, and of course drums. The band has played dozens of shows and events over the past two years. Several of these events have been at other schools and venues. There have been two consistent factors in these shows - the students perform AMAZINGLY, and we always struggle to field a gig-worthy drum kit that we can fit on the school bus. Including hardware, a drum kit could weigh anywhere between 50-100 pounds and could take up a huge amount of space on a school bus.

With this special style of drum kit, the band will be able to bring their own, quality drum kit with them wherever they go!

A "pancake" style kit can fit in a single gig bag and will take up significantly less space on a school bus (one seat or possibly less!), making it much easier for the students in The Funky Panthers to transport. Our two drummers (as well as the many more who will follow them in future years) will greatly benefit from a well-made, great-sounding, and easy-to-transport drum kit.

When the band is not "on tour," this kit will enable two students to play drums simultaneously and provide a great way to teach drum lessons. Many of our students have autism, and the visual modeling of their teacher playing the drums alongside them will be greatly beneficial.
