Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school serves almost 500 New York City public school students. 94% of the population are minority students. 30% are students with disabilities and English Language Learners.

Education in financial literacy is key to overcoming poverty but with 80% of are students qualifying for free or reduced lunch along with the limited school funds, our classrooms do not have basic supplies needed for our eager students to climb the ladder of success.

Therefore, finding funds for extra engaging project based learning can seem almost impossible without the generosity of DonorsChoose.org sponsors.

My Project

All too often in poorer – lower income families, there is limited knowledge of investing to pass along and share with kids in the home. Therefore, when learning in school, these kids need more engaging and supplement lessons to make up for the conversations and experiences they are lacking outside the classroom. Students are turned off by lectures, worksheets, and articles they feel they cannot relate to.

However, most students love games.

Bringing strategic board games that promote financial literacy, economics and business will not only motivate and promote learning, but also stimulate brain development, encourage growth mindset, boast critical thinking and social interaction. Who says learning can't be fun?
