This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 6th grade students love hands on science labs! They love learning by doing and creating. For the first time in many years, science is active and engaging. I had one student tell me, “science used to be so boring because all we did was read from a book and take notes. Now we’re actually DOING science!” But now, my students are actively participating in their learning. Last year, students designed their own hand warmers to use during the winter, using engineering skills and science knowledge.

My Project

Our school district recently purchased brand new science kits. We have a lot of supplies to do science experiments however, we lack safety equipment. In order for our students to utilize the science kits, we need safety goggles. By supplying us with goggles, you are allowing my students to actively participate in science. Our next unit is on thermal energy which requires the use of chemicals. Without the safety goggles, students wouldn’t be able to safely use the materials. Also, when students where proper safety equipment, they feel more like real scientists and are more engaged and invested in their learning. By providing the basic lab equipment, you are funding the future of science
