Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students are a group of energetic, fun, creative, and curious kids.

One of the most important things they will learn this year, is how to be a community of learners and these fun materials will be incentives to help our classroom community learn to follow classroom routines, respect each other, and be active learners.

In my classroom, I have my students earn "parties" by following our classroom rules. When they do, the whole class earns a smiley face on our growing goal chart. After 20 smiley faces are earned we get to have a "party." For example; bouncy ball party, slime party, and punching balloon party. It is such a blast! The kids love it and they feel successful at achieving this goal together. It really helps build our community.

I have been doing this for 4 years now and it really helps me, as a teacher, focus on positive behavior instead of negative behavior. It helps us work together on something fun, where everyone feels like they belong and accomplished something. I also find lots of fun ways to incorporate learning into our fun parties. For example: write sight words on the bouncy balls, counting with punching balloons, etc.
