This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work in an economically challenged community. Working with students at my school is challenging and rewarding all at the same time. In the 5th grade, most students haven't had much experience with science yet. They may have learned some very basic skills, but they haven't really done experiments or seen demonstrations. This is unfortunate, but it is a reality.

I love to surprise my class with each project, experiment, or demonstration because when they make the connection between learning science and life, it is rewarding all in itself!

My students are bright and eager to learn all about anything I teach. I am very happy to say I work with them.

My Project

I will attend sessions hosted by the actual scientists and engineers working on exciting endeavors like the International Space Station and explorations of Mars and the planets beyond. I will hear from the astronauts leading the charge in exploration! I will learn about the bold vision to send humans back to the Moon and off to Mars! I will attend sessions presented by educators and receive ready to implement ideas and experience minds-on, hands-on fun. Also, I will network with educations from all over the world to share and learn from them alike. I will earn 24 hours of continuing professional development.
