My Project

For the 2023 school year, myself and another 9th grade teacher teamed together to help our Freshman with a new Freshman Seminar class. Following the Covid pandemic, we have noticed our high schoolers were less successful at school, then struggled more post graduation. At times, our students are struggling to understand high school and the importance of Freshman year being a major step for their high school career. While our Freshman are struggling each year with academics, there is also a notable decline in their communication skills, self-management, organization and social skills.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens will be used to work on the components of high school, more importantly the Freshman years, to help our students navigate for success post Covid.

Our students are Title I students, residing in a diverse city, where they rely on what they learn in school to assist them in their every day life. Our goals are to provide them with the tools and skills they need, including, forming positive habits, successful communications and interactions with others, time management, goal setting, coping skills, and more. By providing this guidebook, our students will be set for their high school careers with less stress and better success!
