My Project

My students are so special because of the disabilities that make them who they are. I teach 9 students in kindergarten to 2nd grade with significant disabilities who rely on their bodies and AAC devices to communicate. My students love to express their personalities and form friendships with each other through play and activities each day.

My goal for this project is to provide my students with functional play activities to express themselves and practice life skills through play.

The doctor's play set, makeup play set, and the cash register will allow for my students to practice job skills and learn to take care of themselves. The Encanto busy book can allow my non-verbal students to participate in reading lessons through gestures and actions. The washable paints and the construction paper can help my students to access crafts throughout the school year. The dance wands and bubble blowers can help my students to regulate them throughout the day and meet their sensory needs. The bulletin borders, birthday decor posters, and calender posters can help to make our classroom more engaging and colorful for my students. The 10 frame pop its can help my students focus on counting skills in a way that is interesting to them.
