My Students

My students are thoughtful, creative, and eager to learn! They are learning how to become leaders in our classroom and in the community.

Every day is a new learning experience in first grade!

The students are learning to read, write, count and care about one another.

Each child is unique with special gifts and challenges. In my classroom, I strive to create hands-on experiences to meet each child's needs and provide an educational experience that we all can learn from. We love to celebrate our big and little successes each day!

My Project

First Graders need a lot of fun hands-on experiences to go along with teacher-directed instruction. It is often difficult to keep the attention of 25 students and skills and concepts are better understood when the students can touch and hold the materials. Pop and Add games will benefit my students by allowing them to practice addition skills and cooperate with others in a small group setting. Geoboards provide the students with an opportunity to learn about shapes, create new shapes, and demonstrate their understanding of shapes as they put shapes together to make realistic pictures.

All students need to feel successful while they learn at their own level with hands-on activities and games.

Having a variety of activities allows them to stay more engaged and learn from each other. Students will be engaged as they play the Magnetic Bug Toss game to review addition and subtraction concepts. It is a great way to keep their hands busy as their minds are solving math problems. It is also fun to see them help each other solve problems and cheer each other on.

Hands-on materials also help me as the teacher to meet with small groups and individuals students to re-teach skills and concepts. The students learn how to cooperate, share, and teach one another as they review math concepts.
