This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students work hard and really enjoy doing projects. Being in an urban, low income school with language barriers, it is sometimes difficult for them to understand concepts by reading or taking notes about it. In doing projects, they are actively involved and are more aware of the concepts we studied as they complete the tasks.

I like to have a lot of hands-on learning experiences for my students so they can apply what they have learned and see how things work.

In studying forces, we will create egg parachutes to see if they can land their eggs safely and slowly. The containers and parachutes will be a great help in making the best possible models to analyze how forces played a role in their project. Also in analyzing speed and acceleration, we will make balloon race cars and collect data to analyze why certain cars went farther than others. I will use the speaker to have small groups watch instructional videos of how to construct the perfect models for these activities while other groups are constructing their prototypes. I will also use the snacks as rewards for doing well in the activities as well as having the best models. The posters will be used to show their data, analyze it, and present it to the class.
