Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How can we create interest for science, technology and mathematics to economically challenged students whose basic survival needs are a priority? By providing them with resources and tools so they may apply science and mathematical concepts through coding.

My students come from low income and educationally disadvantaged homes.

My classroom is composed of 75% English learning students, who happen to live in a low income community within the inner city. At our school almost 100% of our students qualify to receive the reduced price meal program. Most of my students' parents work long and late hours, therefore homework and project based learning assignments must be completed in school.

My Project

We are requesting two Botley robots, an accessories set for Botley, a Go Ro Bot Mouse Classroom Set, and an Edison Educational Robot Kit STEAM Education set. Initially these coding resources will allow my students to learn basic coding skills while having fun playing with them. The Botley and Mouse class set are at a basic level which makes coding comprehensible to them.

Next students will move on to more complex coding by programing the Edison robots set.

Students will collaborate with one another as they code, create challenges for themselves and each other. Students will then present the various ways they can showcase their coding abilities by showcasing the problem and solutions found while coding with the Edison robots. Through the presentations students will be able to ask questions and modify their designs if needed.
