My Students

Hello Generous Donors,

I teach Kindergarten in a low-income neighborhood in the heart of Philadelphia.

My classroom this year will have 28 enthusiastic learners, each will be on a different learning level, some who have no school experience. I will need to think of creative ways to engage them, keep them focused, and build the foundation to make them life long learners.

Despite the adversity of the harsh area that surrounds our school and many of their homes, I am in constant awe of the resilience that they show. They come to school wanting to learn and shouldn't let something small like not having a pencil keep them from having their best day.

Our classroom is a safe place where all of my students are encouraged to be themselves and have fun while learning. Because of this, they look forward to coming to school every day.

My Project

The Sit Spots will give each child in our classroom their own safe place to sit during our whole group lessons and during their independent center time for both math and reading. The Tootsie Rolls and Animal Crackers will be used as a snack during our day, they can also be used as an incentive for positive behaviors, and as a hands-on manipulative during our math lessons.

The camera and film will be used to document our daily classroom lives, pictures will be taken and sent home of our birthday kids, kids doing assignments.

This will allow the parents that do not have access to our classroom over Dojo to still have a glimpse into their child's day. We will take pictures as we are doing our lessons and display them throughout the year and these pictures will be used at the end of the school year to create a keepsake for the children and their parents.
