My Students

My student are all unique and have different learning styles. They come from many different cultures and countries. I teach highly gifted students to students who need more support and hands on learning experiences. I hope to enrich my gifted students and enhance and support my other students through a textile learning style. I would like to lay a solid foundation for all students in Geometry to prepare them for the high school when they take Regents level Geometry class and regents.

My Project

This is my second year teaching the new Common Core 7th grade Curriculum. Many of my students find the problems and questions challenging and difficult. Games and manipulatives make learning more concrete, less abstract and make practice more fun. When choosing the materials I tried to find manipulatives, flash cards and games that cover the five major standards in the seventh grade. The flash cards will be the first item that I can use as student investigate the order of operation. I can use the first level of cards to review and assess where the students are and the more challenging level to broaden and enrich this skill. Next we will be able to practice and review our integer rules through Integer Bingo. The other games and manipulatives will be used throughout the year as we learn ratio and proportions, algebra skills and the geometry of two and three dimensional solids.
