Fun Seating For Learning!

My Students

I teach 2nd grade in a small town in Tennessee with around 20 students each year. Those students are amazing and love to learn. They are very active and bouncy and struggle to stay in chairs. We are a Title I school which means that our school is 99% poverty. We have a 50% hispanic/english learner population. They love working together and helping support each other in every aspect, whether it is classwork or emotionally.

My students are a family in my classroom, my family to be exact, and I want them to feel at home in our classroom family every single day.

I want them to continue to love school and enjoy coming to school to learn as well as see their friends. Our classroom community is very important in my classroom.

My Project

Flexible seating gives the students the opportunity to be comfortable while learning. I always give them the ability to stand up as long as it doesn't block the other students sight lines. We work in the floor as much as possible but there is definitely discomfort while doing it.

My students are wonderful and work hard but they have desks that are too short and chairs that are too small.

We need the comfortable options to help them be happier while learning. As well as not so cold while working on the concrete/tile floors. We will use these items to start transforming the classroom into a mostly/full flex seating space. That way those tiny desks and chairs can be a pain from the past as we go forward.
