Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a bubbly bunch of fourth and fifth graders with a variety of intellectual, social and language (dis)abilities at a pubic school in the Bronx. Many of my students are returning to the school building after a year and a half of remote learning, and are excited to be back!

As the classroom teacher, I desire to build a community that encourages individuality while celebrating us as a whole.

I aspire that our students will not only progress academically, but are kind, hard-working and think critically to solve problems. I strive to mold well-rounded, ambitious kids by setting a strong example of not giving up when things get tough!

My Project

My 4th and 5th graders have struggled greatly, especially with loss of instruction during the pandemic to master the foundational skills of reading. They are in need of some new quality texts that will directly support their daily phonics instruction. These decodable readers will help my students practice what they are learning both in school and at home.

It is my hope that my students will not only develop the important skills to read fluently, but also their confidence as readers.

Through strategic and engaging phonics instruction, as well as quality materials, I know my students will make amazing progress this year!
