Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the gym. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things exciting in physical education.

My students are eager to learn new physical activities and sports.

They are very energetic and eager to participate in all types of sports and activities.

They like to move, they enjoy learning and they love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the gym, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during their time in physical education.

My Project

With the fun and exciting new equipment we will be able to do fun things in the gym and also outside on the playground.

The scooters are a huge hit for all ages.

They love to have relay races and play all kinds of fun games.

The tug a war rope is a fun activity outside that the kids really enjoy.

The frisbee golf is something new I am very excited to introduce to them. The hopscotch will be great for working on balance and of course hopping.

I also purchased health and motival posters to brighten up the gym. Then of course we need hand sanitizer. Thank you for your help with my kids here at Hillcrest.
