My Students

My classroom is full of energetic kindergarten children who are military dependents. Many of them have parents who are deployed or who have been wounded in action, as our school is situated on a military installation. My classroom also serves students with a wide range of abilities, so I strive to provide a loving, supportive, and safe place, each day, through my classroom, for all of my students. I encourage a lot of movement in the classroom, because brain-based whole body activities propel them further toward success, while engaging them in their learning! I also work to take them on additional field trips and to provide learning experiences outside the 4 walls of our classroom. Wouldn't you love to learn like that?

My Project

Each time you hold a pencil, use scissors, or fasten a button, you are using small muscles in your hand. My kindergarten students need to develop these muscles through fine motor skills. This project will place fine motor skills materials in the hands of my kindergarten students.

I have many students who begin kindergarten having never used a pencil, glue stick, or a pair of scissors.

The kids are happy, creative, and fun-loving characters, who come to school each day ready for a new adventure. Unfortunately, until their fine motor muscles are developed, many students will struggle with daily school and home activities.

Let's face it, if it isn't fun a five year-old will let you know! To motivate them, we need games and specialized activities to make the task of building fine motor muscles feel less like a chore and more like play. These items are a perfect tool to improve the fine motor development of my students.
