Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Billboards, video games, murals, cell phones apps; All these call students attention with the beauty of their colors and creativity. Now, its the students turn to demonstrate their talent and creativity.

"Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were.

But without it we go nowhere." -Carl Sagan My students have a great imagination that need to be carried to different worlds. They need to show their imaginative creativity through their work. I teach in a lower socioeconomic community. Most of my students lack the resources to be provided the basic material for daily classroom use. They look to teachers to provide them with these materials. I know my students are full of potential and intelligence. I am afraid that they are not allowed to demonstrate this due to the lack of materials.

My Project

It's the end of the unit. FINALLY! This could only mean time for projects and group work. After a weeks work, students are ready to display their hard work and understanding on posters. The questions never fail to com up: "Ms. Rodriguez, do you have better markers? These are drying out", "Do you have different color pencil because these won't sharpen?", "Is there different color paper we can use to make our poster look better?" Embarrassed and ashamed, I always answer in a low voice, "Sorry, that's all I have" I want to allow my students to be excited about their hard work. Therefore, I am requesting markers, color pencil, and paper. I am requesting markers and color pencil to be allow students to create projects that are as creative and colorful as themselves. I am requesting paper and pencil to provide my students with the daily necessary materials that many lack. Thank you!

I think we can all relate to the feeling of being more excited about an activity when we get to take control and are able to express ourselves.

We don"t want anything holding us back. This project is important because it helps bring down one of the many barriers my students face on a daily basis.
