Fun and Mindfulness in the Psychology Classroom

My students need materials that will help them learn in a fun and engaging way. All of these things can be used at an Advanced Placement and regular level to teach students the joys of Psychology.

My Students

In my typical day I see about 150 students. I teach an Advanced Placement Psychology class and a class entitled Human Social Behavior (think of this class as a mix of Introduction to Psychology and Social Psychology!).

I work in a High School environment and interact with all grade levels in my classroom.

55% of the students that I interact with are low-income students that are every bit deserving of a classroom that can provide them with all types of different learning opportunities. Right now I love coming to my classroom everyday. I love everything about learning and teaching. My students still have barriers to their learning that I feel that you can help me change.

My Project

My project includes games and materials that I can use within my Psychology classroom to help all of my students learn. I recently completed a professional development opportunity which will help me utilize mindfulness to help my students to learn strategies to relax and remain calm in all environments.

I like to lead my students through individual and group learning opportunities.

The use of the models and taste kits will allow the students to experience hands on learning. In addition, the games will allow students to learn in a way that incorporates teamwork and fun. (At least a teachers version of fun!)
