My Students

"Children must be taught how to think, not what to think." --Margaret Mead My students enjoy building with blocks and Lego bricks. Children learn collaboration skills and basic engineering principles through play. I am teaching great scientists and engineers!

Our rural Title school has 100% participation in free and reduced breakfast and lunch.

Many of my students do not have access to these types of materials at home. Funding these materials will make a big difference in the lives of my children. We live close to a military base and some of our children have parents serving our county. Living in a rural community, many of my students will connect with the concept of building. They are ready to learn and try new things!

My Project

Building toys are more than simple playthings. Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs are the classics. They teach basic engineering skills. Zoob's offer an imaginative and creative way to build. Playing with Marble Run reinforces science, force and motion. Magformers teach students design and construction. Students will have the opportunity to use these materials throughout the year. After finishing an activity, students can have free choice to complete a STEM activity.

Offering these STEM items in my classroom will give students the opportunity to apply many of the key principles of these fields of study.

Children learn by doing. They learn by making mistakes, solving problems and through play. Who knows, we might be inspiring a future architect or scientist!
