My Project

Art and STEM centers are a fun time for my students to explore, show their creativity and enhance their self-esteem! When students have something to look forward to in school- they want to be there and many times will do better academically and emotionally.

Combining the subjects of Art and Science creates an exciting opportunity for my students in STEAM classes.

Here they not only get to explore their creative and artistic side, they will also apply their problem solving skills too!

Creating a STEAM area where students are able to explore different materials to use their thinking skills to solve challenges is a unique opportunity to apply their problem solving skills using a hands-on approach. Students will be given a challenge where they need to use the objects in the container to solve it independently, in pairs, or in small groups. For example, Build a parking structure that can hold 3 cars using the building bricks.

It is an exciting opportunity for my students to be able to manipulate objects rather than trying to solve a problem using only pencil and paper. This will stimulate and motivate learning instead of students just sitting there staring at a piece of paper. It is always exciting to see my studentsʻ' eyes light up when they can solve a problem on their own instead of asking for help. I believe that these STEAM activities will greatly enhance my students' learning and motivation for problem-solving.

Having a STEAM class will give my well-deserving students a break from their ELA and Math classes, yet at the same time use the knowledge that they have gained from these subjects to apply them in a fun and creative way.
