Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The United Nations has nothing on us! Walking around the halls you hear students and teachers speaking in English, Spanish, and French!!! Our students come from different economic and cultural backgrounds. They also have diverse academic needs.

The Science Lab is the one place they all love to go to explore and shine.

In the Science Lab, all of their knowledge and experiences are shared and used to learn about how the world works. In the lab, they don’t have to be at any reading level or math level to be successful, all they need to do is be willing to try things out.

My Project

Last year, my students favorite days in the lab were the STEAM Challenge days; however, limited materials often restricted what we could do. The biggest obstacle we faced was with freezing materials and keeping them frozen. My old college fridge's tiny freezer was not up to the task.

This year, I have increased the number of challenges that we are going to tackle.

I am also creating STEAM boxes that students can use anytime. Students will also need materials that will let them share their idea with their peers and the school community. These materials would make it possible to increase the number of challenges they can tackle.

The freezer would help make and keep ice. The ice will be used for things like learning about how animals stay warm, what materials are insulators or conductors, and making ice cream. Students will use the chart paper to share their ideas.
