Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year I am teaching STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) to students in grades 1-8! My students love being creative and having the opportunity to work on hands on activities. Often my students are rewarded with "free builds" where they can use various building materials to build and design various structures. Using building materials in STEAM classes offers students a hands-on, engaging way to explore key concepts, which enhances problem solving skills, promotes creativity and innovation, and encourages inquiry-based learning. Not to mention, having fun and using their imagination! Hands-on activities with LEGO and similar tools transform abstract concepts into interactive, enjoyable experiences, increasing engagement and retention.

Building materials inspire curiosity and experimentation, fostering a mindset of asking questions, testing hypotheses, and learning through trial and error.

By incorporating block-building activities into learning environments, we can provide students with valuable opportunities to explore and grow in a playful yet purposeful manner! That is why I am requesting a set of STEAM model boat kits, along with building materials such as Lincoln logs, and Lego bricks. With 287 students who come into my classroom each week, I can never have enough materials and resources to make learning fun, and foster curious minds. Incorporating building materials into STEAM education helps students bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing them for future challenges in creative and technical fields!
