My Students

"What are we doing today?" "I wonder what we will learn next?" "When are are going to study ____?" Are just some of the inquisitive questions my students ask each and every day. My students are eager to learn and come into class with a positive mindset every day! I teach in a third grade classroom with some students on the Autistic spectrum.

Our school has a unique program called Enrichment Clusters, based on the Joseph Renzulli model.

Our students cannot wait to receive their cluster survey at the beginning of the year to choose three clusters they will experience throughout the school year. Each cluster runs for 10 weeks and each week our students look forward to Friday mornings where they can learn about a topic they are interested in.

My Project

My students will benefit from this amazing K'Nex set in order for them to go through the STEAM Engineering Design Process. Our students have worked with straws, popsicle sticks, legos and other materials to create model bridges. I found this set after taking a STEAM Makerspace online class. After learning about the educational value of this set and the many pieces that allow for intricate designs, I knew my students would benefit from this.

Students will build teamwork and critical thinking skills by working together in partnerships to brainstorm solutions, design a plan, build a model, test their model, and evaluate the outcome.

I know their faces will light up with the many possibilities this set provides. Their experiences in my cluster will be true to what a civil engineer does when creating their own models. Please help my students develop a stronger passion for engineering by helping me purchase this kit! Your kindness and generosity is extremely appreciated!
