Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a high school volleyball and basketball coach, I am incredibly proud of my athletes. They are dedicated, hardworking, and passionate about their sports. Through this project, I aim to equip them with financial literacy skills that will extend far beyond the court. By actively participating in fundraising activities, such as managing concessions at games, they will learn essential skills in budgeting, saving, and financial planning.

The hotdog maker, cleaner, and money box will provide hands-on experience for my athletes in running a small business.

They will take charge of managing a concession stand, which includes operating the hotdog maker and keeping it clean, as well as handling money and ensuring accurate financial tracking with the money box. These tools will help them understand the costs associated with supplies, how to price items for profit, and how to track and manage income.

In addition to concession stand skills, the athletes will use financial literacy workbooks and digital budgeting tools to develop a comprehensive financial plan for our sports season, incorporating the profits from our fundraising events.

Through this project, my students will learn the fundamentals of financial literacy, such as budgeting, saving, and managing a small business, gain real-world experience by running fundraising events (e.g., selling hotdogs), tracking income, managing expenses, and ensuring profitability.

My students are more than just athletes; they are future leaders, business owners, and community contributors. Many come from low-income families, and fundraising gives them an opportunity to contribute toward their own sports experiences. This project will not only help fund our team's needs but also provide them with the financial skills necessary to thrive in their futures. They are resilient, motivated, and eager to learn, and this project will equip them with valuable life skills while supporting their athletic dreams.
