My Project

This year I have the privilege of teaching in a Special Education English classroom with Freshmen and Juniors. My students are some of the sweetest and funniest kids ever. I love that they are always willing to try and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. I love that they each bring a unique perspective into the classroom. With this project, I’m hoping to bridge gaps in my classroom.

My goal for this project is to create and provide the best learning environment for my students.

I want to create a welcoming space that encourages students to participate, makes all students feel confident, and sets the expectation to promote responsibility.

These items will help enhance my students' learning. As of right now, I play videos and music from my laptop or it plays from a board. However, the sound is not the best. Having a speaker would be a big help when I show them videos about writing narratives or listening to one being read to them. The snacks are for my growing and very hungry students. We are a Title I school but sometimes students forget or lose their IDs and can’t eat. Another common situation I'm seeing is my students not having enough time to eat breakfast because morning traffic in our community is horrible at times. The snacks would help hold them over until lunch or after school. Post-It easel paper is great for group projects and my visual/hands-on learners. I also float into another classroom so it has great portability. The stapler, mouse, and other essentials are for me to help stay organized. One skill I'm trying to stress to my students is organization. I’m trying to set an example for them by staying organized and neat myself. Mahalo for taking the time to read about my project!
