Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are eager bilingual learners. They come from Mexico, El Salvador, the U.S., and a myriad other places around the world. The majority of them have free or reduced-price lunch plans. These students have warm hearts and friendly smiles.
They are thirsty for knowledge and grow visibly every day.
In addition to learning a second language (English or Spanish), the students engage in project-based learning. They work hard every day in class to achieve high levels of learning, and then spend an extra hour in school to help them shore up whatever they need help with.
My Project
About 80 students at our school, grades 2-5, attend an after-school program designed to help with homework and re-teaching math and reading skills. These students, who are mostly on free and reduced-price lunch plans, are not able to bring snacks to help them stay alert and learning. They need healthy fuel after a long day of traditional learning.
Refueling the brain has been shown to help with student learning.
These students attend this program to help them with English and Spanish language skills, reading and math. They will benefit from having an after-school nut-free snack as they continue working towards their academic goals.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
