Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My school is a Title I school, which means the majority of my students live at or below the poverty line in New York City. This means many of my students come to school hungry each day and rely on the school meals for sustenance. However, often the school meals leave something to be desired and many students skip breakfast or lunch and come to class tired and hungry.

This project would allow me to fill my pantry which snacks my students can have when they are hungry, and some fun treats to help motivate them to do their best.

While we know intrinsic motivation is most important, it's also clear that students are motivated by rewards and candy: oh the power of the Jolly Rancher: they really should sponsor teachers!

Candy giveaway are fun to motivate students to do their best and even go that extra mile and we also do trivia at the end of class for random bits of knowledge to enrich their minds.

A student recently wrote me and stressed how much these fun candy trivia moments stand out and impact the students and I would love to keep it going into next year, but the cupboards are a bit bare at the moment! This project would greatly help.
