Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in Washington, DC. Our students are African-American. Their resources are limited, with over 95% of them qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. They come from low-income neighborhoods in the Washington, DC area. Our public elementary school need a variety of learning opportunities for quality engagement, challenge, and motivation in order to best function. We know supporting our students in this stage of their development can be a turning point for our students. SEL Social Emotional Learning plays a big part in education that empowers our students to believe in themselves and their ability to positively impact the world.

My Project

Now that we are back in the building full time, students are having a hard time staying focused because they are hungry. When we were learning from home, students had access to eat whenever they wanted too, but now students are back on a schedule and due to COVD-19 restrictions students have to eat lunch earlier in day. By the afternoon, my students are striving. The snacks that you will be donating will help my students to keep moving forward and it makes them feel I care about them. Giving my students snack break, helps them feel connected to me, and it is then that learning is at a premium because they feel safe and nurtured.
