My Project

In addition to learning in the classroom, our school requires students to spend half their school time off campus at internships throughout the city to gain tangible and meaningful learning experiences. Students have busy schedules and some struggle with housing and food security. Many students skip breakfast and other meals throughout their school and internship days. Most teachers in my school regularly spend money out of their own pockets buying food for students.

The cost of food in NYC is a barrier to many when finding healthy and affordable options for students.

Many of our internships are either in food deserts or in areas where the cost of food is beyond unaffordable. Many of our internship sites aren't financially able to provide meals for our students.

When students are hungry, they struggle to engage and focus on learning. Knowing that there are snack items at school will help ease their minds and improve their mental and physical health. Making snacks more available to students takes one thing off their plate and will hopefully help they stay more focused in and connected to school.
