My Students

We are a small, K-8 school in a culturally diverse neighborhood in New York City. My students are enthusiastic, expressive, curious learners from all different backgrounds. They are excited to learn and make amazing art projects. They love painting, drawing, sculpting with clay, and really anything they can be creative with! With budget cuts having affected New York public schools in recent years, it has become difficult for us to sometimes purchase even some of the most basic of supplies for our classroom.

My Project

I love to teach my students how to draw from observation in my art classroom. Students draw things like, sea shells, pine cones, leaves, old phones, clocks, flowers, and even their own shoes!

Drawing by looking at objects helps students to hone in on their observation skills and can help improve focus and attention to detail.

They look closely at each detail and difference in texture and show that in their artwork. I would like students to have the opportunity to draw a still life with fruit in a basket.

We are asking for pencils and several pieces of quality artificial fruit and baskets to set up on our art tables. Your donation will be so much appreciated by myself and my students. These items will be able to be used year after year in our art room for many years to come. Thank you so much for considering helping us out!
